Celebrating 1 year of Your Space Foundation providing counselling to children and young people

Writer: Felicity BotterillFelicity Botterill

As we celebrate our first year in operation, we take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve had so far. Over the past twelve months, we’ve had the privilege of meeting wonderful clients and their families, providing childrens counselling to support a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, low mood, trauma, self-esteem issues, self-harm, and relationship difficulties.

The Impact We’ve Made

We have worked with children as young as five through to young adulthood, providing a safe and supportive space for them to express themselves and work through their difficulties. Seeing their growth and resilience has been both inspiring and deeply rewarding.

Our approach is rooted in flexibility and individuality. We offer a range of talking, play, and creative therapies, blending these methods to create a therapeutic approach that is as unique as each client. Our therapy options range from single-session therapy and short-term counselling to long-term trauma therapy, ensuring that we can meet each young person’s needs in a way that works best for them.

The feedback we’ve received has been incredibly meaningful:

Thank you so much - it was lovely to see her open up and have space and understanding to share her thoughts and feelings
I'm so grateful A is feeling less scared about being separated from me
Thank you so much for the counselling sessions, I have learned so much about myself and ways to cope

Beyond our direct work with young people, we’ve also enjoyed building relationships with other organisations. These connections have been invaluable, and have enabled us to support in various settings, such as Oxley Park Community Centre, schools, GP surgeries, ensuring that children and young people can access help wherever they feel most comfortable.

Challenges and Growth

Navigating funding has been a learning curve, often feeling like a minefield, but it has also taught us resilience and creativity in ensuring we can continue to offer vital support. As a team, we have grown in experience, strength, and passion for our mission. We are excited to expand further, allowing us to reach and support even more children and young people in need.

Looking to the Future

As we step into our second year, we aim to build on our foundations, strengthen our partnerships, and continue growing our team. We are committed to making youth counselling more accessible and impactful, ensuring that every young person who needs support has a place to turn.

To all those who have supported us—our clients, their families, our partners, and our dedicated team—thank you. We couldn’t have achieved this without you, and we look forward to another year of growth, learning, and making a difference in the lives of young people.
