Our School Morning Routine Pack is a printable visual routine toolkit for parents and carers of primary-aged children. It includes morning routine cards, support cards, a Now / Next board and practical guidance to help you choose and adapt the steps around your child.
Our School Morning gives you another way to show what is happening next. The printable picture cards let you build a routine around your child, with practical guidance to help you use them together.
There is no expectation to use every card or for your child to follow the routine without help.
How it can help
Some children find pictures easier to follow than spoken reminders alone. You can use this toolkit to:
Make the next steps visible
Show a smaller, more manageable part of the morning
Explain changes to familiar plans
Help your child communicate when they need support
Explore which steps need more time, help or a different approach
What you’ll receive
An 11-page printable PDF containing:
18 routine cards covering getting ready, travelling and arriving at school
Six support and connection cards, including “Help me”, “Pause” and “Stay with me”
Six blank cards for your own photographs, drawings or words
A Now / Next board for displaying two steps at a time
Parent and carer guidance, with practical examples and suggestions for difficult mornings
Preparation and printing instructions
Who it’s for
Designed for parents and carers of primary-aged children who may:
Find school mornings or transitions difficult
Benefit from seeing what comes next
Find several spoken instructions hard to follow
Need support to communicate when something feels difficult
Choose the pictures and words that make sense to your child, and personalise them where needed.
How to use it
Explore the cards together at a quieter time. Choose a few familiar steps, then arrange them in an order that fits your morning.
Use the Now / Next board if showing the whole routine feels too much. Offer practical help, respond to your child’s communication and adjust the plan as you learn what works for them.
Making room for your child’s experience
Mornings can be difficult for many reasons. These cards can support a routine, but understanding what feels hard, and what may need to change at home or school, still matters.
Your child can feel worried, sad or frustrated and receive support through the next step.
Please note: This is a digital download; no physical product will be sent. For personal and family use, including sharing printed cards with adults supporting your child. Full printing and sharing permissions are included.
